Lakewood

Lakewood’s lakes are Lake Steilacoom, Gravelly Lake, American Lake, and Lake Louise.

Originally the favored ‘summer home’ of the founding fathers of Tacoma, Lakewood’s many lakes and natural elements are still enjoyed by its residents today. The city offers four golf courses (three public, one private), numerous parks, and of course, fishing and a range of other boating activities that Lakewood’s five beautiful lakes provide. Residents not only benefit from the prime outdoor surroundings, but also enjoy easy and convenient access to I-5 North and South, Hwy 512, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Lakewood residents also have only a 40 minute drive north to Seattle.

Since becoming a city in 1996, Lakewood has experienced some great improvements thanks to an excellent team of city management that has kept taxes low and provided good and reasonable utility rates. The city has also been improved with better streets, sidewalks, and overall city services.

Oakbrook

The Oakbrook community was built over a 40 year period and features approx. 2,000 homes in a wide variety of sizes and styles: Oakbrook has high-end homes with spectacular views, as well as more affordable single family townhomes, condos, and apartment complexes in a variety of sizes. The community offers a golf course, tennis club, and swim club.

Tacoma Golf & Country Club

Also in Lakewood is the Tacoma Golf and Country Club, which has many beautiful waterfront homes and newer condos within the grounds.

Living in Lakewood

Lakewood residents love what the city has to offer. With a population of approx. 60,000, Lakewood is the 6th largest city in Washington State. The city has its own police and fire department, hospital, a Pierce Community College campus, Clover Park Technical College, and great schools—there are several private schools in addition to two senior high schools. Lakewood has several churches, banks, a shopping mall, and a 12-screen movie theater.

Among favorite attractions of Lakewood residents and visitors is the restaurant Casa Mia Pizza, which was voted the best in the Puget Sound. H & L Produce is also a favorite, with produce fresh from the farm and a huge variety of unique foods and a fabulous fresh meat market. A visit to the Lakewood Movie Theater is also a special treat—every theater has large reclining chairs for each moviegoer.
