University Place


Resting between the neighboring cities of Tacoma and Lakewood, University Place also borders the lovely Puget Sound. A city of recent development and growth, University Place also offers the great convenience of a central location.

University Place is situated near I-5 with excellent northern access to cities like Tacoma and Seattle, and is also close to Highway 16 running west to the neighboring city of Gig Harbor and the Peninsula. The city of University Place has a population of approx. 33,000 people and is home to a diverse selection of housing options, activities, conveniences, and opportunities for enjoying the beautiful scenery.

 

Living in University Place

Within the city is the continually growing University Place Town Center, and ongoing plans for additional development in the Town Center make for an exciting time within the small community! Currently under construction is a large, brand new apartment and condo complex, and recently added are several small businesses and a new public library that contribute to the convenience of living within the University Place Town Center. The city also has newer home communities, and on the western slope of the city, there are homes with fantastic views of the Puget Sound.

For many families, University Place is their home of choice—the city’s schools have a great reputation. Walking and jogging around the numerous parks seems to be a favorite pastime for many residents, and dogs are welcomed everywhere! University Place has an abundance of opportunity for outdoor enjoyment, also including the beautiful Chambers Bay Golf Course with breathtaking views of the Puget Sound and Chambers Bay. The Chambers Bay Golf Course has received high praise from the golfing community, and in fact, this admired links-style golf course will be home to the 2014 PGA Tournament! In addition to this much-anticipated event, each year in June, residents look forward to the traditional Duck Daze Parade, which always makes for a fun time in the community.

The Green Firs Village Shopping Center is the hub of the city and a popular shopping destination—located in the center is a Starbucks (a popular meeting place for the locals), a Hallmark store (a nice place to buy a gift), a handy pet store, and among other businesses, a Trader Joe’s that is the envy of surrounding communities and greatly supported by adjoining cities. University Place also has a Bartell Drugs location, and a wide variety of other businesses and services offered around 27 & Bridgeport.

University Place Real Estate

There are currently a variety of places to reside in University Place. In the recent decade, new home development has occurred, but land for large-scale development has diminished. Newer communities are smaller and harder to find; most available homes are resales. On the western side of University Place, there are some great home options that enjoy a nice view of the Puget Sound and nearby mountain ranges.

At present, there are 120 homes available priced at an average of $311,650; the average price in the last 180 days of the 199 homes that have been sold is $294,530. Also currently available are 26 condos priced at an average of $181,900, and the average price in the last 180 days of the 26 condos that have been sold is $143,340.
